Special Issue: "Ethnic Studies and Student Activism Now"
Article Submission Deadline: December 14, 2025
Kalfou invites activists, scholars, artists, students, and educators to contribute to a special issue examining the relationships between ethnic studies and student activism now. The issue will consider how students shape and are shaped by ongoing struggles over ethnic studies and public education more broadly.

Article Workshop for Special Issue
In preparation for our special issue on this theme, Kalfou invites activists, scholars, artists, undergrad and graduate students, and K–12 educators to an article workshop for projects that examine the relationships between ethnic studies and student activism now.
Date: Saturday, October 11, 2025
Location: Hybrid (University of California, Santa Barbara + virtual option)
Application deadline: Send abstract (350 words max.) to submissions@kalfou.ucsb.edu by September 10, 2025
Submission Guidelines
Submissions should be 5,000–10,000 words, including footnotes, and conform to the Chicago Manual of Style, 16th ed. Authors’ names should appear on a separate title page so that manuscripts can be evaluated anonymously.
Manuscripts should be sent in Word format. Photos, charts, maps, etc. should be submitted as separate files.
Images must meet minimum resolution requirements (1200 dpi for line art, 300 dpi for all other images) or they cannot be published.
